About this data

China's merchandise import turnover broken down by more than 220 countries and territories, on a monthly basis, in USD. This illustrates the origins of China's raw material and component imports—led by Taiwan, South Korea, and Australia—along with monthly import figures from Vietnam. Two lines require close attention: "Taiwan (Other Asia, nes)" is the Comtrade designation used in place of Taiwan due to the absence of a dedicated code, and the "China" line represents re-imported and re-exported goods, namely items that leave and subsequently return to China's customs territory. Data from January 2015 onwards are sourced directly from the inquiry platform of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, updated up to the most recently published month; preceding data are drawn from UN Comtrade and lack figures for October 2012 to December 2014, as China did not report monthly data during that period. Both sources have been reconciled over the 2015-2024 overlap period and match to the thousandth.
