About this data
China's merchandise exports broken down by 97 two-digit HS chapters — electrical and electronic machinery, mechanical appliances, vehicles, textiles, steel, and more — on a monthly basis, valued in FOB USD. This provides the clearest view of the "world's factory" structure and serves as a direct benchmark for Vietnam's exports, as HS chapter codes are international standards also used by Vietnam Customs. Chapter code 99 represents unclassified goods rather than a specific industry; it is retained to ensure the sum of chapters matches the aggregate total. Data from January 2015 onwards is sourced directly from the General Department of Vietnam Customs' inquiry platform, updated to the most recently published month; earlier periods are drawn from UN Comtrade, with October 2012 to December 2014 missing due to China not reporting monthly data for that period. The two sources have been reconciled over the 2015-2024 overlap and match to the thousandth.
