US Median CPI, Trimmed-Mean and Sticky CPI
Four alternative measures of underlying inflation in the United States that do not rely on the exclusion of food and energy are published: the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland's median CPI and 16% trimmed-mean CPI, which trim the tails of the price change distribution; the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's sticky-price and flexible-price CPIs, categorized by price-adjustment frequency; the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco's cyclical and non-cyclical core PCE, classified by labor Market sensitivity; and the Bureau of Labor Statistics' chained consumer price index for all urban consumers (C-CPI-U) by Commodity group, which accounts for consumer substitution across commodities.
