Monthly primary energy consumption in the United States across the residential, commercial, industrial, transportation, and electric power sectors (MER tables 2.1-2.6). Each sector is broken down into on-site fuel combustion by type (gas, petroleum, coal, biomass), purchased electricity, and the allocated share of electrical system energy losses; the electric power sector is further detailed by primary energy input. Summing the four end-use sectors yields total primary energy consumption in the United States. The final block isolates non-combusted energy use—including petrochemical feedstocks, asphalt, lubricants, and waxes—alongside its share of total consumption (table 2.7).
