About this data
The UK Retail Sales Index measures the value and volume of goods sold by retailers, seasonally adjusted, including and excluding automotive fuel — and beneath the headline, the same trade split by store type and by the size of the retailer. Large businesses (100 or more employees) and small ones do not move together: the gap between the two is the clearest published measure of how much of retail trade the big chains have taken. Published monthly by the Office for National Statistics.
