About this data

Home Office open data on crimes recorded by the police in England and Wales, by quarter since April–June 2012: the 43 territorial police forces plus British Transport Police, by offence group and offence type. Fraud and computer misuse, which are recorded by Action Fraud and industry bodies rather than the police, are excluded, as in the headline police recorded crime total. Recorded crime reflects police recording practice as well as crime levels: improvements in recording since 2014 raised violence, sexual and public order offences in particular. Burglary combines the pre-2017 domestic and non-domestic categories with the later residential and non-residential ones.
