About this data

UK employment and pay counted from tax records rather than from a survey: every RTI submission an employer makes to HMRC, aggregated monthly by the ONS. It gives three things the Labour Force Survey cannot — the whole distribution of monthly pay from the 10th to the 90th percentile, median pay for each of twenty industry sections, and the flows of people starting and stopping payrolled work each month, which is how you tell a frozen labour market from a churning one when the headline level is flat.
