About this data

The dollar value of US energy trade each month since 1974 - petroleum and total energy exports, imports and the balance - set against total merchandise trade, so the energy balance and the non-energy balance add up to the overall goods balance. The United States became a net exporter of petroleum by value in 2020, a reversal of half a century of energy deficits that shows up directly in the trade balance.
