About this data

Quarterly house price index (2025=100) for the Euro area and the EU: total transactions, newly built housing, and existing housing. The index measures actual transaction prices of residential properties purchased by households, covering both detached houses and apartments. Differentiating between new and existing housing is particularly insightful: new home prices are driven by construction costs, whereas existing home prices reflect supply, demand, and credit conditions more rapidly — adjusting first following a cycle of interest rate hikes. The series begins in 2005 and is published approximately three months after the reference quarter. Source: Eurostat.
