About this data

Quarterly net flows of foreign direct investment into Japan by industry of the Japanese investee, world total, since the third quarter of 2016, in 100 million yen: 12 manufacturing and 10 non-manufacturing industries. Figures follow the directional principle (investment by an affiliate in its parent is netted as disinvestment by the parent), so they differ from the balance-of-payments direct investment on the asset/liability principle. Industry sub-totals include confidential cells and 'other' industries, so the listed industries do not add up to them. Source: Bank of Japan.
