About this data

Quarterly employment rates for the Euro area, the EU, and all 27 member states, seasonally adjusted, based on the Labour Force Survey (LFS). This serves as a necessary complementary indicator to the unemployment rate: two countries with identical unemployment rates can still differ significantly in the proportion of their population actually in work, since individuals who are not seeking employment are not counted as unemployed. The 20-64 age group series corresponds directly to the European Union's target of reaching 78% by 2030. The table also breaks down figures for youth aged 15-24, older workers aged 55-64 — the group that has expanded the most over the past two decades due to retirement age reforms — and the gender gap, which remains the most persistent disparity in the European labor market.
